Peek-a-moon

Amazing photograph of a moon rising from behind another moon -- in this case, Saturn's moon Rhea rising behind the moon Titan.

Incidentally, there will be a "blue moon" on New Year's Eve. There will not be another New Year's Eve blue moon until 2028.

Grand Central on a Rainy Night During the Holidays

Another HDR photo from Flickr user: stuckincustoms.

I was a regional marketing manager for a large national bank in the late '90s and was responsible for the Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C. markets. Our office was right across the street from Grand Central on 42nd Street. Although I used Penn Station for my local travel, I would walk over to the main concourse and just watch all of the activity. I can just imagine what it was like in its heyday.

More information about Grand Central here.

Spacewalking astronauts seen with a backyard telescope

This is amazing! The spacewalk referred here took place in March 2009. Apparently someone with a telescope and a high quality camera was able to take images of the astronauts themselves.

John Lennon announced dead by Howard Cosell -- December 8, 1980

Hard to believe it's been 29 years. I was driving home from playing volleyball and then watching part of the MNF game at a bar in Lincoln, Nebraska when I heard the news.

Comedy Central scoops network news on "Climate-Gate" scandal

Poor Al Gore. Global warming completely debunked via the very Internet you invented. Oh, oh, the irony.

Quote from Jon Stewart on Tuesday's "The Daily Show" about the growing controversy over faked research reports about global warming.

A funny line from comedy writer Alex Kaseberg

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had to place Dirk Johnson and Torrie Cox on injured reserve. The last time a Cox and a Johnson were hurt was when Adam Lambert’s tour bus hit a pot hole.

Why the double standard?

President Obama traveled to Ft. Hood today to attend a memorial service for those slain there last Thursday. I was struck by something he said during his prepared remarks:
But this much we do know - no faith justifies these murderous and craven acts; no just and loving God looks upon them with favor.
It appears the president is treating this horrendous act as a murder committed by a nut. He is quick to discount the strong possibility that terrorism is involved.
He was certainly quick to render judgment on the Cambridge, Massachusetts police department last summer:
...that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home.
Why the double standard? Political correctness? Please, Mr. President, be consistent in your message.
